Members
of the Munda ethnic group, the Dangaria Kandha or Dongria Kondh people, live in
the Niyamgiri hills of the Indian state of Odisha (formerly Orissa). They
depend on the resources of the Niyamgiri forests for their livelihood, engaging
in shifting cultivation and horticulture. They have been at the center of a
dispute over mining rights in the region.
The
mountain known as Niyamgiri or Niyam Dongar, which rises to a height of 1,306
meters, is the highest point of the 250 square kilometre Niyamgiri hill range,
which is located in the south-west Odisha district of Rayagada and Kalahandi.
The region is filled with deep gorges, cascading streams, and heavily forested
hills.
The
Dongria Kondh are known as Jharnia, which means "protector of
streams," and their name comes from the word dongar, which means
"agricultural land on hill slopes."
Every part of the Dongria's life is infused with a profound respect and reverence for their gods, hills, and streams, including the triangular designs found on village shrines to the many gods of the village, farm, and forests, as well as their leader, Niyam Raja. The Dangaria Kandha worship Niyam Raja (Niyamraja), the supreme god of the Niyamgiri jungle, and believe that Niyam Raja is the source of their vital resources.

out of the hotel and head to Konark to see the Sun Temple before continuing on

a rickshaw ride in the Old Puri area, then go to the Raghurajpur Artist
Village, where they perform acrobatic dances, before heading back to Puri.
Morning Breakfast at Hotel then Travel to Baliguda while stopping at the villages of the Desia Kondh tribe and weavers.
Dongaria and Desia Kondh's Chatikana Market, Kuvi Kondh villages, and Minapai's Bamboo Craft Village. Overnight at Rayagada.
Drive
there in the morning, stopping along the way to see the settlements of Malwa Kondh
and the Lanjia Saora tribe. Spend the night there.
Travel
to Bhubaneswar, stopping along the way to see Chilika Lagoon before leaving in
the evening.
